Elk Island Trading&Waterfront

Bernie Woodard and Elk Island Trading Group, LLC have been working for years to clean up the South Umpqua Riverfront in downtown Roseburg. Our goal is to get folks and their kids to the water and all the recreational activity that comes with it. In the meantime Elk Island Trading Group continues to acquire and renovate old homes and vacant properties along the waterfront to create what will become a thriving commercial and recreational success for Roseburg's waterfront and the whole community! 

All of Southern Oregon's original development started with this section where Deer Creek meets the South Umpqua River about 1843 with the settlement at that time called "Deer Creek". Elk Island Trading Group is renovating these old structures one at a time to create nightly lodging and riverfront activity (such as the recent Umpqua Strong 9k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od6GYdaDbCk ). Here is a picture of the 100+ year old Outdoor Kitchen that was used by several homes years ago to preserve (can) their fruits and vegetables for future food. An Outdoor Kitchen was used because to preserve most foods it took cooking and that heated up the house too much during late Summer & Fall. The solution was do the work outside. In this case we are renovating this structure into a gathering place along the river and bike path. Wine, Cheeses, Smoked Salmon tastings & meetings on the river.
